A kitchen must-have, garlic is simple to grow. Plant in a sunny spot and you’ll harvest plenty of fat, juicy garlic bulbs in July and August. Adapted to cooler and wetter conditions, this variety grows well in the UK. It stores well too.
When the leaves start to turn yellow you can check to see if they are ready to harvest. You may be able to tell if they are ready from the crown of the bulb peeping above the surface of the soil. If not, carefully dig one or two up to have a look with a hand fork.
